Updating your BricsCAD network license to the latest release

Updating your BricsCAD network license to the latest release

The following gives a high level overview of the steps involved with updating an existing BricsCAD network license to the latest release.

Update to the latest Network License Manager

In conjunction with the BricsCAD V25 launch in October 2024, Bricsys released a new network license manager to manage BricsCAD network licenses. The new manager has been significantly overhauled to make the managing and maintaining network license much simpler going forward.  Because of this it is highly recommend that BricsCAD network license holders update to the latest network license.
Alert
If you're running an older server setup, then please check first to see that it meets the latest system requirements. If you find that your server is no longer supported, then please raise a support request with Bricsys to get their advice on options to update.

IMPORTANT STEPS FOLLOWING INSTALLATION:
  1. Setup a Password. Immediately following installation of the new network license manager, go to the web portal (http://localhost:5054) and set a password. If you fail to do this, the server will shut itself down after 10 minutes. See RLM login setup for additional details on setting up a login.
  2. Check Firewall requirements. The RLM server and the Network license manager need to be able to communicate across your network and internet. If you have previously had to make changes to your firewall, then you will need to revisit these settings to update them to the new license manager application and location. Windows users can go to Firewall and Network Protection in the Windows Security App and select the option to "Allow and app through the firewall". Following this browse to the installation folder and select the RLM app, then repeat for the Network License Manager app.

Update your Network License(s)

Once you have the new installation installed and password set, you can go to the license manager and upgrade your license.

If the license manager doesn't show any license(s) available for update, then check that you don't have multiple .LIC files present in the installation folder. If you do, then remove all but the most recent license key, then restart the license server from the web portal. Following this, go back to the license manager to see whether it now shows that the upgrade option is available.
